The luxury Bali villa resort The Ungasan is set atop of the dramatic cliffs on Bali’s Bukit Peninsula with soaring views over the glistening blue waters. We sat down with The Ungasan’s General Manager Melissa Moyle to talk all things rebrand and what has been happening at one of Bali’s best beach clubs, Sundays.
Where does the name ‘The Ungasan’ originate from?
The name, The Ungasan, honours the surrounding Ungasan village, which is home to most of our staff and their families. The resort’s elegant feather logo represents flight and freedom, soaring above, from a higher perspective. The feather honours the community’s storied heritage and cultural roots, reminding us that the Ungasan village is a very special place. It also symbolises luxury and the permanent refreshing breezes we receive, thanks to the resort’s position atop the spectacular Ungasan Cliffs and blue horizon vistas.
What have been your biggest achievements since the rebrand in June 2016?
I think first the rebrand and the smooth transition into this new chapter was our first big achievement. The staff all worked hard to build a new and better brand. I am really proud of the job that they did. They have, and still do, work tirelessly to deliver an unforgettable experience for our guests. I think also, the collaboration with James Viles and the roll out of new menus across the entire resort is a big deal. Food and beverage has become such a big part of what guests want, and I think ours is now amongst the best and we are all very proud. We have over this past year been especially focussed on improving the overall guest experience, and F&B is a big part of that. We have made changes to the in-villa offerings including Afternoon temptations and In-Villa BBQs which are pretty special and unique to the Ungasan. Our villas are perfect for sharing, and have become popular a favourite rendezvous for global families – which is great. And we are really happy how that is unfolding. It was a big and exciting year, we kicked a lot of goals – and are excited about what lays ahead.
Why shouldn’t you miss out on staying at The Ungasan when travelling to Bali?
Because The Ungasan offers unforgettable experiences, where magnificent memories are made. And because when asked what they do – our staff reply – “we create magic with service from the heart”.
What has been happening at Sundays Beach Clubs, set on one of the most beautiful beaches in Bali, since the rebrand?
Earlier this year we upgraded the beach club, renovated the roofs and added in some spectacular new areas. Created a Sundays boutique, expanded the kitchen, added an amazing pizza oven. We have fresh new menus, we added in breakfast, which now has us opening at 8am daily. Live music plays every Saturday from 3pm – 7pm and our bonfires still kick off at 6pm with marshmallows and smores. We have added in some more stand up paddles boards, canoes and kayaks. It’s still the best place in Bali to have fun, relax with friends and family and enjoy the good food!
