An Understated and Elegant Wedding at Masseria Moroseta
Surrounded by an age-old olive grove that has witnessed many a love story, glowing bride Assem wed her love Bruno in a custom made voluminous gown of fine Italian silk during their dream wedding at Masseria Moroseta. Encompassed by cacti and striking whitewashed walls, every element of this special day was made all the more perfect by the picturesque setting.
Simple and elegant tablescapes of flowing white linen and ambient candles were centred theatrically in the masseria’s limestone courtyard. The Apulian DJ later brought the party into full swing, as clusters of candles lit up the starry Apulian night sky.

the venue.
The historic Masseria Moroseta was reimagined by designer, architect and magazine editor Andrew Trotter, who took the main elements – white tufo stone, a respect for both indoors and out, and plenty of communal areas – and revitalized it. The local cacti against the building’s striking white walls creates a picturesque contrast, whilst curved lines and excessively big windows give modern character against the surrounding landscape. The newly refurbished farmhouse uses local materials and modern architecture, set against a rural backdrop. The perfect combination of modern chic meets historical elegance made Assem and Bruno’s wedding at Masseria Moroseta a stylish yet understated affair.
the styling.
Rustic minimalism was the vibe of the day. The decor during this wedding at Masseria Moroseta stayed true to the Apulian culture with folk inspired details and a touch of modern sophistication. Swaths of linen blowing in the sea breeze, sweet smelling lavender, barley and baby breath beautifully dotted about the venue set the tone for what was a stylish yet laid-back affair.
the photography.
The beautifully talented Monica Leggio encapsulated Assem and Bruno’s wedding at Masseria Moroseta perfectly, capturing the essence of the region and creating simple, warm and intense pictures.
the planner.
Local wedding planner Flavia Robbe meets the highests standards and orchestrated the day beautifully.
the dress.
Assem is a fashion buyer for her mum’s multi-brand store in the city of Lugano in Switzerland, so it was fitting that her dress was both stylish and refined.
La Nuova Sartoria in Lugano produced a stunning tailor made gown, made from the finest satin silk from Taroni, a silk company based in Como since 1880. The collaborations resulted in a gown that was both romantic and timeless. The off the shoulder aspect of the dress added a touch of sultriness, whilst the voluminous sleeves and skirt brought an element of high fashion.
The bride’s ‘something blue’ came in the form of a pair of baroque turquoise Celine earrings with gold finishing in cultured pearls.
the hair & makeup.
Assem opted for understated, simple and natural waves which let the bold gown speak for itself.
the bridesmaids.
Each bridesmaid wore a unique style, all the while being white which complimented the venue beautifully.
the groom and groomsmen.
Bruno scrubbed up in a grey suit tailor made with Ermenegildo Zegna fabric, a grey Hermés tie, a special set of cufflinks from Bucherer with ‘Assy’ etched on one and ‘Bruno’ on the other, and classic shoes from Church’s.
In contrast, the groomsmen wore blue suits with matching blue Hermés ties.
the rings.
For Assem’s engagement ring, Bruno opted for a timeless custom pink gold solitaire diamond-encrusted with a brown diamond from jewellery boutique Rondina in Lugano. Adding a special layer of depth, Assem’s mother helped Bruno design it.
the paper.
Shhh My Darling created minimal yet romantic invitations and menus to match the warm and intimate atmosphere which were handwritten with light grey watercolor on soft milk toned paper.
the flowers.
The brilliant Angelica from Flower Addicted curated the flowers, using white proteas for the bouquet, resulting in an understated yet sophisticated look.
The bride’s bouquet for the ceremony consisted of large headed white flowers with lots of greenery, matching the surrounding rustic groves.
Bridesmaids and the couple’s adorable flower girl wore white florals and greenery in their hair mirroring the bride’s bouquet, whilst little olive sprigs were attached to the backs of wooden chairs.
Dangling white flowers with greenery were used for the reception decor to match the crisp Apulian landscape. Uniquely, flower heads were used sparsely for the dinner table, with earthy fruits and nuts taking centre stage.
the favours.
Customized travel sized bottles of homemade organic olive oil from Masseria Moroseta were prepared for their guests with the help of Carlo, the masseria’s owner.
the ceremony.
The couple tied the knot outdoors, surrounded by 32 of their loved ones, in the midst of 100 year old olive trees. The wedding at Masseria Moroseta was simple, letting the natural beauty of the location radiate. Swathes of white fabric billowed from the olive trees, adding romance but complying with the simplicity of the overall aesthetics.
the reception.
Taking inspiration from Apulian traditions, hale bale benches were used for the aperitivo décor, to help recreate the style of an Italian village market, with stalls preparing fresh local mozzarella and seafood for their guests.
A simple white tablescape inserted in the minimalist white courtyard of Masseria Moroseta was decorated with dried fruits, figs, grapes and head of protea flowers in brass bowls. An abundance of layered level candles in brass and concrete candle holders added a romantic air to the wedding at Masseria Moroseta. The fresh and effortless details, coupled with the white washed uncomplicated setting resulted in an elegant reception, with less definitely being more.
the wedding songs.
During the ceremony: Jeff Buckley’s version of Hallelujah was performed live by Rodrigo, Bruno’s brother. Rodrigo, a professional musician, performed this as a special wedding present for the couple.
Dinner entrance: You’ve Got The Love by Florence and The Machine
The first dance: Cheek to Cheek by Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald
the food.
Ristorante Nazionale wowed guests with their incredibly fresh and impeccably presented bespoke menu.
Post midnight hearty yet delicate homemade orecchiette was prepared for guests.
The charming gents from local bar Quanto Basta manned the open bar and created personalized cocktails.
the cake.
The talented pastry chef from Ristorante Nazionale created a classic Italian fruit tart, which was decorated live in front of their guests as entertainment and a refreshing twist on the traditional cutting of the cake.
the entertainment.
Musicians played live Bossanova and Jazz music during the rustic chic themed aperitivo.
Singer Quinze serenaded guests with Motown classics at the party, followed by Dj Kokko from Apulia who got the guests up dancing with the playlist curated by the couple.
