Club Med Kani, Maldives: The Most Fun Island Ever!
Written by Sebastian Beckwith, 10 years old (with the help of his 13 year old sister, Indigo)
From the moment we arrived by boat, the staff were smiling, welcoming and full of energy. We were given special bracelets that opened our room, which was very cool because there was no key to carry around—or lose! Our room looked straight out over the ocean, so every morning we woke up to an amazing view of the beach and bright aqua-blue water.
The island itself was beautiful. The water was so clear that we could see colourful fish during the day, then sharks and stingrays near the boardwalk at night. There were sunbeds all along the beach for relaxing, although I didn’t do much relaxing because there was always something exciting to try!
One of the best things I did was snorkel with a marine biologist. We swam with heaps of colourful fish and learned about the coral reefs. Lots of coral around the world is dying, but people are helping by growing new coral on wooden frames in underwater coral farms. It looked like a little underwater garden, and it was awesome knowing that the baby corals were helping the reef come back to life.
I also learned a very funny fact: parrotfish help create tropical beaches! They scrape algae from coral, digest it and then poop it out as fine white sand. So basically, some of that beautiful beach might be parrotfish poop! 🐠🏝️

My sister loved the teen club because she could meet people her age, and we both loved the trapeze. The ladder looked incredibly tall and I was pretty nervous climbing it, but the instructors were supportive and made us feel safe. Once I jumped off and grabbed the flying bar, it was so much fun that I wanted to go again and again. My favourite trick was hanging upside down by my knees over the giant safety net.
Another huge adventure was surfing a break called Ninjas. While paddling across to the island, the water was so clear that I could see fish swimming underneath me. It felt like snorkelling and surfing at the same time! Near the beach, the sand looked like it was moving, but it was actually thousands of hermit crabs crawling everywhere. After walking across the island, we reached a coral-reef break with super-fun right-hand waves that peeled perfectly down the line. Hot tip: Wear coral shoes because there are lots of sea urchins around the reef.
There was a brilliant atmosphere everywhere. Music played around the pool, and the staff got everybody dancing and laughing. At first, dancing sounded a bit embarrassing—but once everyone joined in, it became so much fun that it would have been more embarrassing not to dance!
The evening entertainment was amazing too. The acrobats performed tricks that looked impossible, but somehow they made everything seem easy. My favourite night was the White Party, when everyone dressed in white and had dinner at tables with fancy white tablecloths on the beach. There was even an acrobatic performance right in the middle of dinner!
And the food – there was so much of it! The buffet had sushi, Mexican food, curries, seafood, pasta, pizza, desserts, fruit and heaps more. The hardest part was deciding what to put on my plate.
Even the bathroom signs were fun. One said, “Lights like to have naps. Please turn them off.” I thought that was funny because it made the lights sound alive, while also reminding everyone to save power and help the environment.
What makes Club Med Kani really special isn’t only the incredible scenery, food and activities. It’s the staff, who are friendly, energetic and always encouraging everyone to join in. You can tell they genuinely love helping people have a great holiday.
I would definitely recommend Club Med Kani to other families. Whether you want to relax on the beach, snorkel with tropical fish, fly through the air on a trapeze, surf over a coral reef, enjoy a sunset or watch an unbelievable show, there is something for everyone.
Five Stars from me! ★★★★★
