Quick Facts on the Visa for Indonesia when Traveling as a Tourist:

* Free Tourist Visa– valid for 30 days and not extendable

* Visa On Arrival US $35 – valid for 30 days and can be extended once by 30 days (total 60 days)

* Passport must be valid at least 6 months and have one empty page

Free 30 Day Tourist Visa for Indonesia

Good news! You can explore wonderful Indonesia for full 30 days without having to pay or organize a visa if you have a passport from one of the above mentioned countries.

You just need to make sure you have:

A passport that is still valid for more than 6 months.

At least one free page in the passport.

A ticket departing Indonesia after a maximum of 30 days. Tip: *Be careful when booking your flights: if you arrive 5 minutes after midnight it already counts as one full day.

Visa On Arrival – VOA (US $35)

This is the best option for all spontaneous travellers. If you have a passport from the above listed countries and think you might travel for more than 30 days, it’s best to enter Indonesia with the Visa On Arrival (VoA) giving you the chance to extend your visa for another 30 days should you decide to explore Indonesia for longer (not exceeding a maximum of 30 days).

Simply follow the signs at the airport and pay the US $35 fee. Payment is accepted in cash US$, AU$, EUR or Indonesian Rupiah and sometimes via credit card. Tip: *We would recommend always carrying the amount in cash to avoid delays.

Occasionally you might have to present a proof of sufficient funds as well as a return ticket or confirmation slip.

If you didn’t get the Visa on Arrival, have decided there is still too much to explore in 30 days, you will have to go to an Immigration office to extend your VoA. Make sure to start the extension process latest 7 days before your Visa On Arrival expires.

If you overstay your visa – by accident or willingly – fines apply. The current amount is 300K IDR (approx. US $30) per day of overstay.

WHAT DO I NEED FOR MY VISA EXTENSION

2 Forms you have to fill in and will receive for free at the Immigration office (or by the agent)

2 Copies of your outbound plane ticket

Passport plus 2 copies of front and signature page as well as original VoA page

Black pen

Address and telephone number of where you are staying (most likely a hotel)

355K IDR (approx. US $35) in cash to pay for the visa extension fee (350K IDR for the extension as well as 5K for digital fingerprints and photo) (10/2015)

We strongly advise you to use one of the countless visa agents to be on the safe side. The additional fee ranges from roughly 650K – 800K (approx. US $65-80) depending on the agent but you’ll save yourself a lot of time and any troubles with Indonesian bureaucracy 😉 TAC Tip *The immigration office is always busy and lining up can take up the best part of the day.
