We know everyone is secretly after the perfect Instagram feed! Our Instagram guru and co-founder @phineloves spills the secret of her top Instagram tips to take your account to the next level.
1. PLAN YOUR GRID
Have you ever spent hours editing your latest Instagram-worthy shot, published it, and realised it just doesn’t match the rest of your feed?
Using a third party app such as VSCO or Mosaico to prepare your content and preview your feed is absolutely vital. Make sure you always upload versatile pictures and avoid publishing similar colours and subjects next to each other. Play with different angles to create a diversified grid.
Hint: Just because you took an amazing photo, doesn’t mean you have to share it with your followers straight away! Hold on until it complements your feed perfectly.
2. Straighten Your Horizons
Think you nailed it with your latest post of a sailing boat cruising along the Amalfi coast? But have you paid attention to the minor detail of fixing your horizons?
You don’t need to be an expert to get this straight – simply use Instagram’s “Adjust” tool to correct your horizon line.
3. TAG RELEVANT ACCOUNTS
If you want to grow your followers organically, tag relevant accounts in your pictures for a chance of getting reposted. But before you start tagging aimlessly, make sure your content and editing style is aligned with their feed to increase your reposting chances. Furthermore, if you tag big accounts only in the caption and not in the picture itself, your post might be missed!
Hint: Avoid landscape formats as well as frames or borders on your pictures to increase your chances of getting featured!
4. PUT EFFORT INTO EDITING YOUR PHOTOS
Whether you are the colourful type or a minimalist at heart, make sure to create an overall profile that looks coherent. The perfect photo is usually not done with just one filter. Play around with the editing options until you find your distinctive style, and re-create it for every post to keep a consistent colour scheme throughout your feed.
Hint: Experiment with filters on top of each other using different apps.
We love:
SNAPSEED to edit selected areas of an image;
VSCO for its variety of ambiances and the possibility to adjust filters; and
LUMINANCE to enhance selective colours.
5. Content, content, content
High quality content ONLY! As much as you love to snap your coffee cup in the morning, ask yourself if this would be interesting to your followers, and if the resulting content is stunning enough to leave a lasting impression.
Hint: Monitor the engagement of each picture to find out which content your followers like the most!
