NIHI SUMBA DINING
Dining punctuates the day. It brings on the morning and closes out the night. It gives meaning to each hour. As such we’ve taken great care in designing the dining experience for our guests. Our menus are crafted to recall local flavors and far-flung tastes, using fresh produce from our on-site organic garden. Local fish is caught and brought up daily from our shores to be prepared in a new way every night. Toast is always cooked over an open fire, never in a toaster. We invite you to experience the details that make Nihi Sumba Island a singular culinary experience.
OMBAK
The hub of social activity is the main sandy-floored Ombak (meaning wavefront) restaurant and bar lounge.
Ombak, an exquisitely crafted open-air restaurant, serves a la carte breakfast and dinner daily with a relaxed convivial atmosphere. During the week we create special dining experiences including spectacular BBQs.
The large outside deck, cantilevered over the ocean, offers relaxed lounge seating and a spectacular private dining experience, The Nest, perched on the crest of the ocean, perfect for a romantic dinner or an intimate group meal.
NIO BEACH CLUB & POOL
Just bare footsteps from the sea, the Nio Beach Club offers open-aired pavilions and the Kapten’s Goa (Captain’s Cave) serving the highest quality of fresh ingredients for lunch: whether it is a fish just caught from sea, delicious vegetables and legumes from our three thriving organic gardens, items from the grill, daily rotisserie or freshly made pizzas from our wood-fired clay oven, the Chef and his brigade will satiate your appetite with sumptuously healthy dishes.
The newest addition is a state-of-the-art resort lap pool, perched on the Edge of Wildness with soothing, cooling, and epic views of the ocean, sunsets, Occy’s Left and local village life during low tides. Lunch or snacks are served by the pool, and for special occasions, we create magical settings for romantic dinners.
KABOKU
The latest addition to our dining experiences is Kaboku (Sumbanese for “fish”), our beachfront sushi bar.
Visit Kaboku for an intimate meal of freshly caught seafood, Omakase style. Watch our sushi chefs prepare an assortment of catch-of-the-day, against a backdrop of brilliant sunsets and a roaring beach fire. The chic structure captures a high-end Japanese sushi bar environment, while surrounded by our signature open-air resort ambiance.
Limited to six people per seating, the restaurant is open five nights a week from 6 pm until 10 pm, with advance reservations. The seven-course menu of local ingredients also includes avocado tofu, shrimp dumplings, Teriyaki dishes, miso soup, desserts, and more. Try the sake and wine pairing with your meal.
HOW TO GET TO NIHI SUMBA
There are three flights a day from Bali’s Ngurah Rai International Airport in Denpasar (DPS) to Sumba Island’s Tambolaka Airport (TMC). Flights can be secured for you including VIP lounge access at both airports (an administrative fee applies). Alternatively, you can arrange your flights directly with the airline.
All international departures must travel via Bali (DPS). There are regular flights with Garuda Indonesia (below) although most of them depart in the morning, thus an overnight stay in Bali is often required the night before for international travellers. The Asia Collective can also assist you with connecting flights between Bali and Sumba at the following cost: Roundtrip Economy from USD 550 net per person, which includes airfare, VIP lounges at Denpasar and Tambolaka airports, baggage allowance up to 30 kg, airport taxes, baggage handling, and roundtrip transfers airport to the resort (please note prices are subject to change). If you prefer to book directly with the airlines, the resort can arrange transfers between Tambolaka airport and Nihi Sumba at USD 425 for a private transfer or USD 250 for shared car transfers.
All foreign travellers to Indonesia need at least six months remaining on their passport as well as one full clean page for the visa on arrival stamp. This is strictly reinforced: Guests will not be allowed to board the plane in their departing country if this is not adhered to.
