ARRIVING AT PLATARAN KOMODO
Even the flight from Bali to Flores felt like entering a more untamed, rugged world. From the plane window, jagged volcanic craters and scattered islands floated in the deep blue ocean, gradually coming into view. The passing view hinted at the beauty we would soon explore.
Two men in crisp white shirts greeted us at Flores airport, holding a sign that welcomed us to Komodo. The seamless journey to Plataran was marked by sparkling waters and sweet cookies, while the winding roads revealed breathtaking views of glittering blue seas.
As we pulled into the steep drive and descended toward reception, smiling staff and traditional dancers greeted us warmly. A refreshing drink and soothing massage completed our welcome, creating an inviting atmosphere for the blissful days ahead.
BEACH RESIDENCE
Our Beach Residence was tucked away just off the shoreline, with a set of steps leading from the sand to a dark wood verandah. A hanging chair, surrounded by lush greenery, made the space feel secluded and homely. From the verandah, we had a view of the main pool and the shimmering waters of Waecicu Beach. Stepping inside, we were immediately struck by the beauty and spaciousness. The four-poster bed caught our eye first, and to the left, a cosy living area with a couch, table, and coffee machine beckoned—an ideal spot to unwind after a morning in the sun and sea.
We took a tour of the property, exploring the coastline and visiting the resort’s restaurants, Xanadu and Atlantis by The Rock, before arriving at Xanadu Pier. The crystal-clear turquoise waters allowed us to see straight to the seabed, where we admired the schools of fish and appreciated the fresh ocean air.
DINING
Throughout our stay, we were spoiled for choice when it came to dining. Our first dinner at The Atlantis on The Rock set the tone with an impressive seafood platter, featuring fresh grilled lobster and giant prawns. Plataran arranged the most extraordinary, picturesque dining scenes, including candlelit dinners and beachfront picnic breakfasts. The most memorable was the sunrise hike to the top of a hill, where an enormous breakfast spread had been laid out for us. We enjoyed uninterrupted views of the sunrise, with not another soul in sight.
ACTIVITIES
The picnic was just the beginning of the excursions and activities Plataran had planned for us. Later that day, we ventured to Lost Paradise Beach for afternoon tea under an open wooden hut. We strolled along the beach to plant baby mangrove trees and learn about their vital role in the island’s ecosystem, deepening our appreciation for the island’s natural beauty and its importance of taking care of the ecosystem.
We had plenty of time to explore the resort, diving off the pier into the refreshing water, taking out stand-up paddle boards and snorkels, or simply lounging by the pool with a book. The design of the resort and restaurants blended seamlessly with the natural surroundings, giving us the feeling of being miles away from civilisation on our own private island.
Our time at Plataran Komodo was nothing short of magical. From the stunning natural beauty that surrounded us at every turn to the beautiful food prepared for us day after day, every moment felt like a true escape into paradise. The peaceful mornings on the beach, exploring the island, and the carefully curated dining experiences were all made even more special by the warmth and hospitality of the staff. Their genuine kindness and attention to detail made us feel incredibly fortunate to have spent time at Plataran Komodo.
