THE LOCATION
If you’re looking for a beautiful white sand beach less than 30 minutes away from Phuket Airport, then TWINPALMS PHUKET luxury resort is the perfect choice, with their stunning rooms and penthouse residences less than a two minute walk to the beautiful SURIN BEACH. When booking our little getaway, I jumped on google maps and looked at hotels within a half hour radius from the airport, as I find airport transfers any longer with the kids can at times be more taxing than relaxing.
GETTING THERE
Our private butler Som-O met us in the arrivals lounge at the airport, and took us to the resort’s black limousine van where we travelled in style and comfort, using their in-car wifi service whilst kicking back on their relaxing massage seats. The journey was 25 minutes, but felt more like 10 minutes. Indigo (3 years old) was awe-struck by the massage seat and giggled the whole way, and Sebastian (5 months old) slept in his maxi-cosi after being awake the whole flight. Bliss!
THE SERVICE
The staff were lovely, greeting us with big smiles and welcome champagne drinks. They even prepared a mocktail in a champagne glass so Indigo didn’t feel left out. We were presented beautiful jasmine flowers weaved together like a bracelet which had the most beautiful scent. Indigo insisted we keep them forever and take them home with us!
The check-in process was effortless and we were given a wonderful surprise…an upgrade the the resort’s two bedroom presidential penthouse! Upon stepping inside the spacious 400 square feet residence, Som-O gave us a personal choice from three possible flower arrangements and a selection of scents for the bedrooms.
We were then invited down to the main resort pool to sample some of Thailand’s finest fruits. The mango was insanely sweet – I’m still dreaming about it!
THE FACILITIES
Our Penthouse residence had everything, and more! Three times the size of our apartment in Singapore, the living quarters included a huge 3D plasma TV room, a fully equipped kitchen (complete with a baby bottle steriliser), a beautiful large wooden dining table which would comfortably seat 10 guests, two comfortable lounge areas, and big sliding doors that opened up to our 16 metre private lap pool.
When we walked upstairs we were delighted to find two bedrooms with king size beds and their own spacious bathrooms. They both had showers, toilets, double hand basins, but the best part was definitely the very chic looking bathtub featured in the centre of the bathroom, complete with stylish drinks holders.
Som-O kindly helped to prepare a beautiful rose petal bath so I could surprise my flower obsessed daughter and take a cute snap. However, in typical 3 year old toddler fashion she woke up on the wrong side of the bed (clearly too much sun and chlorine) and refused to even look at it, haha! So I thought it would be a shame for it to go to waste, criminal really, and decided to enjoy some mummy R&R, well for five minutes anyway, before little Sebastian woke up!
THE AESTHETIC
The aesthetic of the resort is beautiful and peaceful away from the hustle and bustle of the streets. The grounds are full of big palm trees and beautiful gardens. The main lagoon pool extends over 1600 square metres into a shallow section, which can be used as a kids pool, and then wraps around the rooms (kind of like a mote) so you can jump off your balcony into the pool. The cute checkered towels and neutral day beds and umbrellas give the resort an eco-feel, as you soak up the sun peaking through the palms.
PALM SEASIDE RESTAURANT
You will be wowed when you step into the gorgeous PALM SEASIDE RESTAURANT. You feel like you could be on a Miami film set. White marble dining tables lowered into cabanas amongst the stunning pool feature, surrounded by cute white interiors, stylish table decor, and a postcard outlook of the ocean.
For lunch we sampled melt-in-your-mouth sashimi as a starter, ordered the deliciously fresh prawns and fish for our main meal, and washed it down with Singha beers. It was a lovely family venue, very photogenic, and equally belly pleasing.
TWINPALMS PHUKET FOR KIDS
They don’t have a kid’s club, nor do they advertise themselves as a child-friendly resort, however they cater for everything family! They have baby cots and high-chairs, baby bottle sterilisers, a children’s menu and a babysitter service. The staff evidently loved children and played with Sebastian whenever we were by the main lagoon pool. We brought our pram and had to contend with a few stairs, but other than that we found it to be a wonderful and intimate family getaway.
